The Evelyn Gates Award
An annual award has been established to
honor a high school varsity volleyball player.
This is the first award of its kind
in the Kansas City area for a female athlete.
The winner of the award is chosen by area
high school coaches.
The first award was presented to Sammie Williams
of Fort Osage High School
at the completion of the
MSHSAA and KSHSAA
volleyball season in November 2004.
The annual traveling trophy is presented to
the athlete to display at her school
along with a $500 stipend
for its athletic department.
